It is always fun when math intersects with art to make something fun and awesome! Compass drawings are a great example.
- Paint brush ~ with a skinny handle
- Masking Tape
- Watercolor Paint
- White Paper
Simply find a skinny paint brush to insert into the compass and tape to hold in place. To begin creating, simply load the paint brush as you would normally, leaving it attached to the compass. The angle is a little awkward, but easy to do. (A wet paint-filled brush worked better that a slightly dry brush.)
This project is about experimentation and discovery, Kids soon discover if they place the point of the compass in the same spot and widened or narrowed the hinge of the compass, they are able to create a beautiful concentric circle patterns.
